Bookkeeping for the Christmas Season
The countdown to Christmas is on! Many businesses are winding down and preparing to relax with family and friends for the holiday period. Although bookkeeping is probably the last thing on the mind at this stage of the year, finances might be a relevant consideration with Christmas commonly being a costly tradition! With relaxation often comes reflection, so it’s the perfect time to consider the future of your business and what plans you can put into place to start fresh in 2019.
Here are some tips & things to think about:
Who doesn’t love the annual Christmas party? But it’s also important to be aware of the Australian Taxation Office’s allowance for Christmas parties and Christmas gifts. Click here to find out about this, or feel free to give us a call - our Shoebox Tax accountant will be happy to assist.
December & January deadlines
Many businesses will close shop around the 21st of December this year, and some even earlier. Don’t forget deadlines such as activity statements and tax returns. Have a chat to your bookkeeper or tax accountant prior to Christmas for any required assistance.
Payroll & Leave Allowances
Policies for claiming annual leave over the holiday office closures are different depending on the business. It’s important for employers to make this information clear to employees for a smooth transition into the New Year. If you plan to go on holidays and are interested in Bookkeeping and Payroll services, we are available to help; our payroll prices are available to view under Bookkeeping Pricing here.
Public Holiday entitlements
Public holiday leave entitlements remain the same as they would at any other time of the year. Employers should ensure that they are up-to-date with Fair Work Australia provisions and pay rates for public holidays.
Planning for 2019
For many of us, bookkeeping isn’t exactly thrilling, and our time is precious! How did you go this year looking after your books? If you found yourself strapped for time it might be worth considering the assistance of bookkeeping services and/or small business bookkeeping. Our prices are available to view under Bookkeeping Pricing where you can build your own tailored quote depending on your small business – you only pay for what you need!
We specialise in bookkeeping software including Myob bookkeeping, Xero bookkeeping services, Xero Cashbook and Quickbooks Online Book; and can set you up with the software or provide you with the software training you require. If you’re yet to set up your software and are unsure of the Myob vs Xero vs Quickbooks conundrum, you can view our software comparison webinar here or blog here.
We offer small business bookkeeping services in 50+ locations nationwide including the Gold Coast, Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth and regional areas such as Toowoomba, Busselton and Cairns - find your local bookkeeper here.
If you think your business might benefit from bookkeeping services in the new year; if you are seeking a BAS agent to lodge BAS, if you need a bookkeeping software health check, training or assistance setting up your books; don’t hesitate to get in touch. We’ll tailor a package that sets you up correctly from day one.
